Sued

Orthodox Christians or Eastern Rite Catholics who have been sued for injuring another person are included in this section. Cases arising from clergy sexual misconduct are also included. (Sexual misconduct is behavior which is inconsistent with the moral teachings of Orthodoxy or Catholicism.)

Lawsuits for damages in the United States do not require the same level of proof as in the criminal justice system. The plaintiff only has to prove that it is more likely than not that the defendant acted as alleged. Lawsuits pursued in other countries may have different standards.

We also include in this section civil actions that did not proceed, or have not yet proceeded, to trial.

Please read each file to determine exactly what occurred in each case.

We strive for accuracy. Consequently, if you have information that contradicts what is posted here, please share that information with us. You can expedite the correction process by providing documentation to support your contention.
