Father Vasile Susan Appeals to the OCA Synod of Bishops
Pokrov.org recently received another letter from Father Vasile Susan. In it, Susan asked the Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) to reopen the charges Susan brought on June 23, 2005, alleging that an OCA clergyman, Father “B,” was an active homosexual. The complete text of that letter is linked above in 2 parts.
According to the OCA website , Father “B” is no longer an active priest in the OCA. However, Susan alleged in his letter that this change in status was never publicized by the OCA, and that Father “B” was released into “the wind.” Father “B” remained listed as a clergyman on a Ukrainian Orthodox church’s website as of today. Susan told the bishops that he would file another lawsuit against the OCA if the Synod did not act on his appeal.
Susan was terminated from his position at Saint Mary’s Romanian Orthodox Church in Chicago, Illinois, in 2004. Archbishop Nathaniel Popp also had the priest removed from the Romanian Episcopate and transferred to the omophorion of the metropolitan. Susan was never given a reason for Popp’s actions, although Susan believed it was because he spoke out about Father “B.” Although Susan remains a priest in good standing, he has been without church employment for more than 8 years.
