Greek Orthodox Church defrocks former priest in Far North Dallas
From staff reports
The Greek Orthodox Church has defrocked Nicholas Katinas, former priest at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Far North Dallas. Mr. Katinas was permanently suspended from priestly activities in 2006, after an investigation by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America into allegations that he committed child sex abuse.
His defrocking, reported in the December edition of the Orthodox Observer newspaper, means he can’t be buried as a priest.
Mr. Katinas and Holy Trinity face a lawsuit in which four male plaintiffs claim to have been abused by him in the 1980s, fairly early in his 28-year tenure at the church.
