Saint Irene Chrysovalantou Greek Orthodox Monastery in Astoria, New York, is a stavropegial institution under the Ecumenical Patriarchate (EP). Originally founded in 1972, the monastery was for many years under the auspices of an old calendar group called the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Genuine Orthodox Christians of North and South America. The group was received into the EP in 1998.
While the monastery was still with old calendar group, Father Konon Lasky was arrested at there. Lasky had fled from Michigan after learning that he was wanted for the sexual abuse of minor boys.
In 2010 the National Herald reported that the abbot of the monastery, Metropolitan Paisios Loulourgas, was under investigation by the FBI and local police for the sexual abuse of parishioners, both male and female, many of whom were under the age of consent at the time.
