OCA Monastery of Saint John of San Francisco (Manton CA)

The Monastery of Saint John of San Francisco in Manton, California, belongs to the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), Diocese of the West. The monastery was established in 1996 by Archimandrite Jonah Paffhausen, who became metropolitan of the OCA on November 12, 2008. When Paffhausen was selected to become the bishop of Fort Worth in the Diocese of the South, very shortly before his election as metropolitan, he was succeeded as abbot by Archimandrite Meletios Webber.

According to court documents filed January 16, 2007, the former Archimandrite Michael Rymer resides at the monastery. Rymer was a priest in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America who was defrocked in December of 2006. He had been sued earlier in that year for the sexual abuse of a mentally incompetent man.
