St. Nicholas Church in Juneau, Alaska, is a parish of the Orthodox Church in America, Diocese of Alaska.
The funeral of Matushka Emily Anna Williams took place at St. Nicholas. The behavior of Bishop Nikolai (Soraich) at this rite reportedly hurt and offended the local Tlingit tribe.
The current rector of this parish, Fr. Michael Spainhoward, took exception to Bishop Nikolai’s characterization that the revolt of the Alaskan clergy was the work of but a “few dissidents.” Fr. Michael offered this opinion in a post to the comment section of Orthodox Christians for Accountability on February 27, 2008.
Richard Dauenhauer, a lay reader in the parish, also spoke out against Bishop Nikolai.
