Letter to the Editor: Fr. Karambis may get Special Treatment at Spiritual Court
To the Editor:
I would like to congratulate you for the in-depth coverage and analysis of the issues concerning our Greek Orthodox Church in America. As a matter of fact you are the only credible source of information in the country. Keep up the good work.
I would like, however, to take issue with Mr. Theodore Kalmoukos’ article in the January 31 edition “Special Synod Held for Archimandrite Karambis,” in which he pointed out that “Fr. Karambis’ defrockment seems almost certain.”
We all know by now that The Herald has excellent sources, but from what I gather from speaking to a number of friends in the West Coast, do not be so sure that the members of the Synod-Spiritual Court will dare to do harm to Fr. Karambis, let alone to defrock him because he knows things from inside from his days at the Archdiocese.
Furthermore this same Synod had voted for him a few times to be a Bishop, how are they going to reverse themselves and who is going to take the lead? I really cannot imagine Metropolitan Isaiah of Denver or Iakovos of Chicago, who are very close to Fr. Karambis to agree to his sanction. But again you never know. Keep us informed please.
