The synod of bishops of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) concluded its spring session on April 1, 2016. During this session the synod selected Bishop Alexander Golitzin to fill the vacant see of the Diocese of the South (DOS). In doing so, the bishops rejected the candidate put forward by the DOS’ diocesan assembly, Archimandrite Gerarim Eliel. A copy of the letter sent by Metropolitan Tikhon Mollard to the entire DOS in linked above.

According to an article on the OCA’s website, the hierarchs will receive a training session on preventing sexual misconduct at their retreat in June, 2016. The same piece noted that the synod heard a report from members of the Office of Review of Sexual Misconduct Allegations and the Sexual Misconduct Policy Advisory Committee during their spring meeting. The presentation included a review of current cases. The article did not provide any further information about the presentation.

Finally, the website “Our Love and Support to Archbishop Seraphim (Storheim)” posted remarks attributed to Storheim’s attorney concerning rumors about the former archbishop’s spiritual court that the site said were circulating. The rumors apparently claimed that Storheim confessed at his spiritual court. The website said that the former archbishop’s barrister told Storheim’s sister that the rumors were false.
