Orthodox church to meet this month over problems with bishop
KODIAK, Alaska (AP) – The Orthodox Church of America is planning a meeting to discuss problems with the leadership of the Alaska diocese.
Top officials visited Kodiak over the weekend to look into allegations that Alaska diocese leader Bishop Nikolai Soraich is abusing his office through intimidation.
The Holy Synod of Bishops will meet at the end of April to discuss the allegations against Nikolai.
Nikolai denies the charges, although he does acknowledge on his diocese Web site that he needs to become a better leader.
Earlier, he had been ordered to leave the state by national church leaders, but returned after the decision was reversed.
