Prominent Wilkes-Barre engineer Michael Pasonick is scheduled to plead guilty next week to bribing a school board member in Luzerne County in an effort to secure work for his firm, according to an order signed today by a federal magistrate.

Pasonick, 69, is to appear before U.S. Magistrate Malachy Mannion in Wilkes-Barre Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre.

Pasonick allegedly paid the board member, who has not been identified by federal prosecutors, between $1,000 and $5,000 in 2007.

Pasonick faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors, according to his plea agreement, which includes no estimate of his likely sentence under federal sentencing guidelines.
