Archbishop Iakovos Coucouzis

Archbishop Iakovos (Coucouzis) led the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America from 1959 to 1996.

He was also the founding president of SCOBA in 1960 and served thus until his retirement in 1996.

According to The National Herald, in an article entitled ”Archdiocese to Settle Misconduct Cases,” and published on November 16, 2007, Archbishop Iakovos gave video testimony in the case of Fr. Stanley R. Adamakis because the archbishop had inspired Fr. Stanley’s priestly life. Archbishop Iakovos was the head priest at the Annunciation Cathedral in Boston when Fr. Stanley was still an altar boy, and the archbishop later ordained Fr. Stanley to the priesthood.

According to an article in the Florida Times-Union (Jacksonville, Florida), Fr. Nicholas Graff served for a time as Archbishop Iakovos’ deacon.

The archbishop died on April 10, 2005.
