Archpriest Paul Shafran is a retired priest of the Orthodox Church in America, Diocese of Washington and New York. He is the pastor emeritus of St. Vladimir Church in Trenton, New Jersey, having served the parish for 53 years.
Two years after his 2003 retirement, Shafran was charged with harassment and bias intimidation for leaving messages with racial slurs at three black churches in the Trenton, New Jersey area. In the voice mail, the retired priest referred to Martin Luther King Day as an “N” holiday. Shafran publicly apologized for his actions.
