Bishop Vikentios Malamatenios is a bishop of the Ecumenical Patriarchate (EP). He was the deputy abbot of Saint Irene Chrysovalantou Greek Orthodox Monastery in Astoria, New York from 1972 until 2010.

Prior to joining the EP, Malamatenios belonged to an old calendar Greek group called the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Genuine Orthodox Christians of North and South America. The group was received by the EP in 1998 and the bishop was reordained at that time.

Malamatenios’ resignation as deputy abbot of the Saint Irene Monastery was accepted by the EP on December 2, 2010. The bishop was also ordered by his synod to remain away from the United States.

On December 17, 2010, the National Herald published an interview with Malamatenios in English. In the piece Malamatenios alleged that Metropolitan Paisios Loulourgas, who had been the abbot of Saint Irene’s during all of Malamatenios’ time at the monastery, had sexually abused Malamatenios’ brother, who was only 17 years old at the time. The article also named other underage victims, male and female, and said that a lawsuit was contemplated. The same information had been published earlier in Greek.

Also on December 17th, the synod of the EP met in an extraordinary session concerning the Saint Irene allegations. The hierarchs unanimously decided to suspend Malamatenios indefinitely.

Malamatenios was defrocked on March 28, 2012.
