Electra Pagoulatos was a parishioner at Ss. Fanourios and Gerasimos Cathedral in Queens, New York in 2002. The parish belongs to the Holy Orthodox Archdiocese of Vasiloupolis.
In a newspaper article printed that year concerning criminal charges filed against Metropolitan Pangratios Vrionis, head of the archdiocese, Ms. Pagoulatos is quoted as saying that she had known the bishop for 32 years and that he had been defrocked because he fought with the Greek Orthodox church. She added that she didn’t believe the charges, and while her two children had attended an afternoon program under the metropolitan’s supervision, she had never observed anything improper.
