Emmanuel Papadopoulos was a long time parishioner of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Oak Lawn, Illinois. The parish belongs to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, Metropolis of Chicago.
In 2008, the priest at St. Nicholas, Fr. John Artemas, had Papadopoulos arrested for trespassing at the church. Artemas had banned Papadopoulos from the property when Papadopoulos remained convinced that Artemas’ predecessor, Archimandrite Timothy Bakakos, had been involved in financial impopriety.
Papadopoulos was convicted of criminal trespass in 2009. He was sentenced to six months of court supervision. He will also have to pay $230 in court fees and may not return to St. Nicholas until given written permission from the church.
