Abbot Christopher Vakhabov is a priest in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, Australian and New Zealand Diocese.  He worked at All Saints of Russia Orthodox Church in Croydon, New South Wales, Australia, beginning in early 2013.

In 2014 the priest was charged with detaining a 14-year-old for his own sexual gratification, giving the boy intoxicating substances to make it easier to have unlawful sexual activity and four counts of indecent assault. Vakhabov has denied the allegations.

The priest was suspended from the priesthood on July 23, 2014, in light of the serious allegations. Vakhabov will face a church court when the criminal case is concluded.

Prior to coming to Australia, the priest worked in the Diocese of Tiraspol-Dubasări, which is part of the Moldovan Orthodox Church. The Australian diocese acknowledged that it knew that in this previous assignment Vakhabov’s ministry was “adversely affected” by his “relative youth and inexperience, combined with a degree of impetuosity.”
