Father Danial Petru Corogeanu was a monk in the Romanian Orthodox Church (ROC). He was assigned as the priest at the women’s monastery, Holy Trinity, in eastern Romania.

In June 2005, Corogeanu, the monastery’s mother superior, Mother Nicoleta Sofia Arcalianu, and the three nuns, Sister Adina Lucia Cepreaga, Sister Simona Bardanas and Sister Elena Otel, nailed Sister Maricica Irina Cornici to a cross as part of an exorcism ritual. Cornici died as a result.

Corogeanu was convicted for his role in the death in 2007 and sentenced to 7 years in prison. He appealed his conviction, but it was upheld. The priest was also defrocked by the ROC.
