Father Luke Melackrinos was the priest at Saint Paul Cathedral in Hempstead, New York, until January, 2017. The parish belongs to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (GOA), Archdiocesan District. The priest is married and has three children.
According to the National Herald, Father Melackrinos was suspended from ministry in January, 2017, for sending inappropriate texts to an adult female parishioner. He was sent by the GOA for psychological evaluation during his suspension.
The Herald also reported that there had been earlier allegations, in 2015, that the clergyman had an affair with a married woman. He denied the charges, which were made by the woman’s estranged husband.
In the fall of 2017, Father Melackrinos was cleared by the GOA to return to ministry and assigned to work at Holy Trinity Church in Sioux City, Iowa. The parish belongs to the Metropolis of Chicago.
