- Robert DeLucia
Archpriest Paisius DeLucia was a priest in the Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Diocese of the USA, Canada and Australia (BOD). He was the founder and head of Saint Innocent’s Academy in Kodiak, Alaska. He was defrocked by a spiritual court on March 21, 2015. The findings of the court are linked here.
In January of 2015 a website went public making serious allegations of abuse at the academy. So far on the site eighteen former students have described their experiences at Saint Innocent’s. Those statements paint a disturbing picture of physical, psychological and spiritual abuse by DeLucia.
On February 21, 2015, the BOD announced that DeLucia would be on a leave of absence bending the outcome of his spiritual court, scheduled to convene March 19-21, 2015.
Bishop Daniil Trendofilov Nikolov was investigating the charges on behalf of the BOD. However, on March 1, 2015, the diocese announced that it had established a response team to “conduct additional witness interviews and inquiries, review affidavits and statements received by the Diocese, and engage in additional investigative efforts to address allegations and complaints.” The team was led by Reader Bede Colvin of the Orthodox Church in America.
The Alaska state troopers are also conducting a criminal investigation of DeLucia. Students and former students who have been abused or who witnessed abuse should contact Trooper Robert Casey. He can be reached by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 907-486-4121 (ask for Trooper Casey).
Prior to his reception into the BOD in 2000, De Lucia was a priest in the Archdiocese of Vasiloupolis. The school was also up to that time a ministry of that jurisdiction.
