Gregory P. Loles was a parishioner of Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church in Orange, Connecticut. The church belongs to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, the Direct Archdiocesan District.
In 2009, Loles was accused of embezzling funds from his parish and at least 25 fellow parishioners, among others. He was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 1, 2010, on 32 counts of securities fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud and money laundering. Loles was arrested by the FBI on December 15, 2010, and remained incarcerated after his arrest.
Loles pleaded guilty to one count each of mail fraud, wire fraud, securities fraud and money laundering on July 26, 2011. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison on February 26, 2014.
