- Monk Ioannis Nevins
Scott Nevins joined Saint Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Monastery in the fall of 2004 at the age of 19. The monastery is located in Florence, Arizona, and is among the 18 founded by Archimandrite Ephraim. Saint Anthony’s belongs to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, Metropolis of San Francisco.
Nevins lived at the monastery for more than 6 years, but left in February of 2011. After his departure, he was very vocal in calling Ephraim a cult leader. For example, Nevins recently started a website about the group, which is linked here.
In the early morning of June 11, 2012, Nevins killed himself outside the monastery. The Metropolis of San Francisco announced this death on June 14th. The announcement is linked above.
