Seminarian Dario Spasic was a student at Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox School of Theology. The school belongs to the Serbian Orthodox Church in North and South America.
Spasic was picked up in Illinois on September 19, 2014, and charged with two counts of indecent solicitation of a child. The seminarian had contacted what he thought was a 14 year old boy to engage in sexual activity. When he showed up at the arranged meeting he was arrested by sheriff’s detectives.
On October 29, 2014, Spasic pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was released on $100,000 bail and returned to his parents’ home in Ohio. According to the media, an unidentified person at the seminary said that Spasic was no longer a student there.
On December 13, 2014, SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, wrote to Patriarch Irinej Gavrilovic concerning Spasic. A copy of the letter is linked above.
Spasic changed his plea to guilty in May of 2016. He was sentenced to probation, but will be allowed to serve it in Ohio. He is also required to register as a sex offender for 10 years, to have no unsupervised contact with children and to pay $2,000 in court costs..
