Sister Christonymphi Fitzpatrick was a nun at Saint Irene Chrysovalantou Monastery in Astoria, New York, for 12 years. The monastery belongs to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. Fitzpatrick was the director of the monastery’s Kindergarten program.

In 2010 Fitzpatrick left the monastery. On November 6, 2010, she reported details of goings on at Saint Irene to the police. According to The National Herald, her statement included an account of improper relations that had occurred at the monastery. These acts included members of both sexes, some of whom were minors at the time. Fitzpatrick also handed over to the authorities a briefcase containing approximately $500,000 in cash.
