Sister Elena Otel was a nun in the Romanian Orthodox Church (ROC). She lived at Holy Trinity Monastery in eastern Romania.

In June 2005, Otel, the monastery’s priest, Father Daniel Petru Corogeanu, the monastery’s mother superior, Mother Nicoleta Sofia Arcalianu, and the two other nuns, Sister Simona Bardanas and Sister Adina Cepraga, nailed Sister Maricica Irina Cornici to a cross as part of an exorcism ritual. Cornici died as a result.

Otel was convicted for her role in the death in 2007 and sentenced to 5 years in prison. She was released early, in January of 2011, for good behavior. Otel was also excommunicated by the ROC.
