Priest being investigated following formal complaint of abuse of a minor
The priest has disappeared from his parish in South Corfu following the lodging of a formal complaint of abuse of a minor by the parents of the young girl. A pre-trial investigation is being conducted and Archbishop Nektarios announced that the priest has been suspended and a Church investigator appointed.
The case is being talked about locally but officially nothing has been said due to the ongoing legal proceedings.
According to Nektarios, Archbishop of Corfu, following the announcement from the Prosecutor that a pre-trial investigation was being conducted into a priest in South Corfu he took the following steps:
1. He suspended the priest from all Church duties.
2. He appointed a Church investigator as required by the Church in cases of possible criminal activity.
3. The Archbishop stressed that, whatever the outcome, the Church’s position is that any kind of exploitation or abuse of anyone caused by lust or psychological problems cannot be excused and will not be covered up.
4. The local Church awaits official evidence from the judiciary before it takes further action.
