STATEMENT: From parents of the victims in the case against Holy Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church

We have always viewed our church as the utmost safe place for our family to pray, learn, and congregate.  A place where we could trust that those in positions of power had the well-being and safety of church members as their top priority.  On Mother’s Day, 2015, however, our faith and trust in the safety that should have been provided by our church and by the church’s leadership to our family was broken and shattered.  The lives of our entire family have been engulfed in the aftermath and emotional damage caused by the sexual abuse of our son.  The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, the Holy Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church of Brookville, Archbishop Demetrios Trakatellis, and Father Demetrios Kehagias were all in a position to protect our son and our family.  They failed us and now our family suffers and shall continue to be affected and suffer for years to come.

Jeff Herman, attorney for the victims, said: “The Complaint sets out facts that are very disturbing.  It shows a complete disregard for the safety of these children.”
