29-year-old Matthew Romanchak of Mayfield was arrested for soliciting, who he thought, was a 14-year-old male child.

On August 23, police say Romanchak was using a social media site where his age was listed as 29 on his profile. An undercover cop played the role of a 14-year-old and began communicating with Romanchak.

Police say the undercover cop mentioned multiple times that he was 14, to which Romanchak ignored and continued a sexual conversation regardless.

Romanchak asked the “child” if they could meet up to which they agreed and an hour later, was taken into custody by police at the meeting spot.

Police say Romanchak admitted to communicating with the 14-year-old. He said he was aware of the child’s age and that he “made a very bad choice that will destroy his life.”

He also told police that if he met up with the minor and they “clicked” he would have continued with the sexual relationship.

Romanchak was charged with unlawful contact with a minor, attempt to commit involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and other related charges.
