A Greek Orthodox priest who was suspended from the priesthood on June 16, 2008, has been returned to active ministry.

According to The National Herald, Father George Pyle was suspended “due to allegations of a sexual nature.” However, his suspension was lifted on October 13, 2010, and he was subsequently assigned to Saint Elias The Prophet Greek Orthodox Church in Dubuque, Iowa on February 13, 2011.

Father Pyle worked for almost a decade at Three Hierarchs Church in Champaign, Illinois, until he was placed “on sabbatical” on August 8, 2007. The clergyman never returned to his parish as he was later suspended from the priesthood. The Herald reported that the priest was treated at St. Luke Institute in Maryland during this time.

Both Three Hierarchs and Saint Elias are parishes of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, Metropolis of Chicago. The Metropolis of Chicago is headed by Metropolitan Iakovos Garmatis.
